It seems that when we watch the news or read the newspaper all we hear about is how ineffective gay rehabs are believed to be. The media tends to focus on everyone whose rehab experience ends in relapse, rather than the thousands of people leading productive drug- and alcohol-free lives. While we cannot attest to the effectiveness of other rehabs, we can speak openly on the level of success our patients have experienced. As a leader in providing "state-of-the-art" rehab for the GLBT community, we continue to receive outstanding reports relating to our patient's recovery. Having treated over 9,000 people from across the United States, we continue to marvel at the difference the Freedom Rings gay-friendly rehab has made in their lives and the lives of their families. As a premier provider of drug addiction rehab, alcohol rehab and dual diagnosis treatment designed for the GLBT community, our clinical staff have developed a program which is non-judgmental, supportive of one's choices and treats men and women with the respect they deserve. Gay-sensitive rehab does make a difference, even when you think it can't.
Heterosexual or gay, rehab can help. Call our toll-free helpline at 1-800-231-1820. Staff is available to take your call 24/7.
What is Gay-Sensitive Rehab?
When we mention the word rehab, we are referring to a residential drug rehab or alcohol rehab. This is a residential facility where individuals remain 24-hours a day; participating in a variety of clinical activities for the purpose of gaining abstinence from drugs or alcohol. There are a number of treatment components that comprise an effective and reputable rehab. Some of the necessary components are;
- Detox Rehab
- Residential rehab
- Day Rehab Treatment
- Intensive Outpatient Rehab
- Aftercare Rehab Treatment
Some of the clinical services provided in rehab are;
- Individualized treatment planning
- Private psychotherapy
- Process Group
- Experiential Therapy
- Family Rehab Treatment
- Relapse Prevention
- Holistic Rehab Services
- Art and Recreational Therapy
- Dual Diagnosis Rehab
- Aftercare
A successful gay-sensitive rehab is one that can offer all of these services and remain sensitive to the needs of the GLBT community. In terms of that responsibility, Freedom Rings is a nationally recognized gay rehab.

Gay Rehab and Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Over 55% of the patients we admit into Freedom Rings also suffer from some sort of co-existing psychiatric disorder. The psychiatric disorders of which we speak could range from depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder to a mood disorder. All of these mental health problems can be effectively treated in our gay-friendly rehab because we offer treatment by a board certified psychiatrist trained in addiction medicine. The board-certified psychiatrist at Freedom Rings rehab, who has been credentialed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, evaluates every patient to rule out or enable them to address their specific disorder. Different from most rehabs, the staff at Freedom Rings treats the dual diagnosis concurrently by integrating a number of our clinical services to produce a gradual, but steady, approach to recovery.
Gay-Sensitive Rehab and Detox Services
It is important to point out that not every gay-friendly rehab has their own detox center. In these cases, the rehab must refer the patient elsewhere for detox instead of providing them the continuum of care they deserve.
Lakeview's Freedom Rings features our own magnificent 10,000-square foot, "state-of-the-art" medical detox center. Located on the same campus as our rehab, each patient is seen individually to design a detox protocol capable of reducing or eliminating their withdrawal symptoms. It is our firm belief that it is not necessary to suffer while in detox. In support of this belief, we provide every patient with the proper medication to reduce any symptoms they might experience.
We emphasize having a detox and rehab together, as statistics point out the vast majority of people entering detox, will require inpatient rehab. This type of detox / rehab design allows for a seamless transition from one level of care to another. We ask you not to confuse detox with rehab. Detox is geared toward medical stabilization and providing an assessment to determine what level of rehabilitation you will require. Rehabilitation, on the other hand, is focused on maintaining the progress made in detox, while addressing and resolving the issues that stand in the way of achieving a full recovery.
