Addiction Treatment Programs and Their Philosophies

There are two main philosophies that are usually adopted by addiction treatment programs. The philosophy the vast majority of programs embrace is the disease model and 12-Step model. These programs believe that addiction is a disease, as it is stated by the American Medical Association and utilize the 12-Step approach as associated with Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. As a disease, the addiction treatment programs teach the patient that there is no cure; they will never again be able to drink or use drugs socially without negative consequences and willpower alone will not keep you in recovery.

The other philosophy used by addiction treatment programs is that addiction can be cured. Not to the point of social drinking, but where willpower alone can keep you in recovery. These types of programs do not believe that addiction is a disease and do not embrace 12-Step recovery meetings.

National research has determined that disease model 12-Step addiction treatment programs, like the one offered at Lakeview's Freedom Rings, provide individuals the best opportunity to recover.

Cost of Addiction Treatment Programs

Costs of private addiction treatment programs can range from $5,000.00 a month all the way to $50,000.00 a month. The difference in cost can be based upon the clinical services provided, accommodations, location of the treatment facility, the quality of the amenities and the length of stay. Some of these programs provide patients with private chefs and personal trainers, while other addiction treatment programs are what we can refer to as "bare bones." It is fair to say the cost of a premier addiction treatment program is in the vicinity of $19,000.00 for a month of treatment.

Specialized Addiction Treatment Programs

It is extremely important that the addiction treatment programs meet the need of the individual. A singular addiction program simply cannot be everything to everybody. Some programs are better with dual diagnosis cases, some excel at treating women, while some, like Freedom Rings, specialize in providing first class gay addiction treatment programs designed exclusively for the GLBT community. For a treatment program to call its staff "specialists," it will need a clinical staff that is trained and experienced in providing that type of addiction treatment. At Lakeview's Freedom Rings, you have gay addiction treatment programs monitored with their own staff specially trained in how to best to help the GLBT population find recovery.

Licensing of a First Class Addiction Treatment Program

Not every addiction treatment program has the same type of license or credentials. What we suggest you look for when selecting an addiction treatment facility is that it be licensed by the state in which it is providing the services and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations. This type of licensing ensures the addiction treatment program is being held to a standardized level of care.
