Addiction Treatment Philosophy

There have been tremendous advances in the effectiveness of drug treatment programs, alcohol rehabs and dual diagnosis treatment centers over the last decade. In this new era of substance abuse treatment, Lakeview Health Systems has remained on the "cutting edge" of addiction treatment and alcoholism rehabilitation with the development of Freedom Rings, an addiction treatment program committed to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

We believe that the LGBT addict / alcoholic should receive the same opportunity to recover from the disease of addiction as anyone else. We deserve to recover in an addiction treatment program, alcohol rehabilitation program or dual diagnosis treatment center free of homophobic attitudes, with a staff that embraces a person's sexual preference. Welcome to Freedom Rings!

Freedom Rings alcohol rehabilitation and drug treatment program believes in treating the "whole person" and not just their presenting symptoms. We understand that while drug addiction or alcoholism might have brought you here, it is the shame, sexual abuse, low self worth, internalized homophobia or feelings concerning sexual preference that if not addressed, would bring you back here.

Studies have shown that over 60 percent of the LGBT community entering alcohol rehabilitation or drug treatment programs suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition. This is referred to as "dual diagnosis" or a dual disorder. Some examples of a mental health issue would be anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder or post traumatic stress disorder, coupled with drug / alcohol abuse.  The addiction treatment staff at Freedom Rings believe it is imperative that both substance abuse and mental health issues be addressed while the person is in drug rehab or alcohol rehabilitation. Far too many recovering people have relapsed after their drug treatment program or alcohol rehab in an attempt to self medicate their anxiety, depression or mood swings, which may have been a direct result of their untreated dual disorder. It is for this reason we address a persons mental health issues during their drug treatment program or alcohol rehab.

Medical Detox Program

Almost every patient admitted to Freedom Rings begins their addiction treatment in the medical detox program. The medical detox program is focused on reducing or even eliminating the withdrawal symptoms associated recovery from drug addiction or alcoholism. Our philosophy in the medical detox program is that people do not have to suffer in order to recover from their addiction. To that end, every patient in medical detox, meets with our board certified physician who designs a detox protocol capable of making you comfortable during this challenging time.

Lastly, we embrace the philosophies of 12 Step Self Help Programs (they have proven to provide people with the best opportunity of achieving long term recovery). With this in mind, your relapse prevention and discharge plan will be designed in a manner which provides you the best opportunity in which to achieve long term recovery.
